Where Community Grows

Saint Joseph’s College of Maine (SJC) is where our community grows talents, sharpens ambitions, and powers innovations to create a compassionate world. Community grows in our students, faculty, and staff, who recognize learning as a tool to lift ourselves in the service of others. We welcome students of all faiths, ages, and backgrounds.

An SJC education is guided by our core values and service. Our Hybrid Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) is a full-time and highly respected program driven by our faculty’s belief that learning best occurs in a community built on mutual respect. As an ABSN student, you’ll receive close supervision, mentoring, and individual attention from a team of passionate and experienced educators. Our BSN graduates demonstrate their readiness with exemplary first-time NCLEX-RN passing rates of over 90%.

A Fast Track to a Career in Nursing

No experience required

We designed this accelerated, full-time program for non-nursing students with a bachelor’s degree in any field who want a more meaningful and rewarding career in nursing. You will learn from practicing clinicians who bring real-world experience into the online classroom. As trusted SJC faculty members, they are trained to meet your learning needs and are committed to your success as a nurse. Integrated placement services help you source local preceptors and sites for your clinical rotation hours.

The Latest SIM Technology

The SJC Center for Nursing Innovation is under construction and will be the newest nursing SIM lab in Maine. Our state-of-the-art simulation lab will deliver the latest in nursing science and SIM technology, including five SIM labs (hospital and home care) and an entire floor dedicated to students’ needs. As an SJC hybrid ABSN student, you’ll be one of the first cohorts to enrich your nursing education and build your skills in this new facility during two on-campus immersions in your first and third semesters.

“I did a fellowship last summer at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston that I loved. I worked for six weeks on a bone marrow transplant and leukemia floor, and then another six weeks on a medical oncology floor. I was able to get a ton of experience with chemo, transplants, and central lines on the bone marrow transplant and leukemia floor. I hope to be the nurse that all of my patients know they can come to with whatever it is they need. I don’t want to be anything other than that.”

“Something I learned when starting nursing courses is that as a job, nursing is very situation-based. You can have all the knowledge you need, but you need to be able to critically think and apply that knowledge to every unique situation you find yourself in. It’s a tough skill to learn! But tutoring and discussing with professors really helps you build those skills.”

“I currently work on a cardiovascular ICU. I love the ICU specialty because you learn so much, and that critical care experience is extremely valuable to me because I hope to go to grad school for my doctorate in nursing anesthesia and eventually become a CRNA.”
